Two artificial intelligence systems - chat.openai.com and Stable Diffusion via beta.dreamstudio.ai - wrote today's quote and generated the image that was used. I merely added some commentary!
The results are dubious. Here's the story.
Today's trend for my series 23 Trends for 2023 is "Escalating Risk Realities" - which covers the acceleration of complex new risk issues. It's a topic I spoke about quite a bit in 2022, and I believe the issues are only to become more challenging in the year to come.
With that in mind, I put together the image I planned to use for today's post: that's always the first step. I then write what I've already pieced together in my mind. The future of risk? What has been rolling about in my mind, particularly with the emergence of new AI technology in the last week, is that we are faced with a situation in which we must "anticipate the unknown, presume the unimaginable, and plan for the unthinkable!"
So, I put together today's quote.
Then, as I thought about it, I had the sense I'd made that sort of statement here before.
What had me so rattled about new risk issues? If you spent any time last week online, or are immersed in current events or news, you would no doubt have seen the emergence of ChatGPT. There is no shortage of news coverage online!
It's been all over the news - people have been using it to write sonnets and poetry, computer code and text explanations, research ideas, and more. Simply do a search for chatGPT online and you will find all kinds of articles. Maybe it was used to write some of them!
Well, let's ask it:
That is a pretty complex explanation for the average non-technical person, so I thought maybe I should just dive right in - and use chatGPT to write today's Daily Inspiration. To add some icing to the cake, I also thought I'd have the image for the quote generated by a similar text-to-image AI generator.
So, here goes! At first, it simply gave me a quote by Peter Drucker, so I decided to ask it for a quote about the future and risk.
Although pretty impressive, the quote is kind of lame; while an impressive display of interaction, there wasn't much actual warmth to the quote it gave me. So I took a different approach.
"Adapt and thrive in changing times." Well, not bad. But not warm - there's no soul or emotion in the quote. There's not a lot of 'there' 'there.'
I have quickly learned that you need to suggest a little more context, so I dug in:
Still lame. So I asked it - and the 'conversation,' if we can call it that, rolls on - 'what happens if we don't embrace change?' The answer was pretty good but still kind of insipid. So I changed tacks altogether:
I went back to my standard modus operandi - and was provided an entire structure for personal growth!
Onwards! Maybe an AI could inspire me about AI? The first quote was too long - I needed it snappy and to the point!
And finally, I had my quote!
I will note that it didn't really answer my final question, noting that it cannot express beliefs or emotions.
With my quote in hand, I now needed an image, For that, I turned to DreamStudio, which interacts with the Stable Diffusion text-to-image generator open-source software platform. I asked for "a photorealistic image of an artificial intelligence bot generating inspirational quotes on a futuristic background." After a few seconds of 'thinking,' this is what I got back,
I liked the fourth one. I now needed a screen or monitor in which to place the quote, so I asked for that too! Give me 'a photorealistic image of a computer monitor on a white background."
I then used some good old-fashioned software with my human skills to work the bot-quote into the image along with my own observations of the future of accelerating risk, working them into one final image:
And with that, there you have the stories of today's quote - all done with the context in mind that one of the trends that organizations need to face in 2023 and beyond is accelerating risk.
Because we have to anticipate the unknown, presume the unimaginable, and plan for the unthinkable.
Because it's already here.
I know that the very idea of this type of technology will worry many people - including two wonderful neighbors of mine. With that in mind, I decided to close by giving chatGPT a final prompt: "Give me a short Gilbert and Sullivan-style comic opera about why we should not worry about AI
We really have nothing to worry about, do we?
Futurist Jim Carroll first interacted with an AI in the form of Eliza, a well-known chatbot that first appeared in the 80s. The concept isn't new - the sophistication of the technology today is staggering.
What follows is the text transcript from my interaction with chatGPT.
Provide me an inspirational quote about how to align to an accelerating future
"The best way to predict the future is to create it." - Peter Drucker
Provide me an original inspirational quote about what to do about a world of constant greater risk
"In a world of constant change and greater risk, the only way to thrive is to embrace uncertainty and adapt to new challenges with resilience and determination."
Provide me in ten words or less an original inspirational quote about what to do about a world of constant greater risk
"Embrace uncertainty and adapt with resilience to thrive in a changing world."
Provide me in five words or less an original inspirational quote about what to do about a world of constant greater risk
"Adapt and thrive in changing times."
Provide me an inspirational quote based on the idea that some people see the future and see a threat but others see the same future and see an opportunity
"Some people see the future as a threat, while others see it as an opportunity. The difference is in their attitude and willingness to embrace change."
Provide me an inspirational quote in six words based on the idea that some people see the future and see a threat but others see the same future and see an opportunity
"Embrace change to see opportunity in the future."
What happens if we don't embrace change?
If we don't embrace change, we may miss out on opportunities and be left behind. In a world that is constantly evolving and moving forward, it is important to be open to new ideas and ways of doing things in order to stay relevant and successful. Not embracing change can also lead to stagnation and a lack of growth, both personally and professionally. It is important to be proactive and adaptable in order to thrive in a changing world.
Inspire me not to be worried about the role of AI in society
Here is an inspirational quote that may help you not to be worried about the role of AI in society: "As we enter the age of artificial intelligence, it is up to us to ensure that it is used for the betterment of humanity and to improve the quality of life for all people." Instead of worrying about the role of AI in society, focus on the potential benefits and opportunities that it can bring, and work towards ensuring that it is used ethically and responsibly. By doing so, we can harness the power of AI to create a brighter future for everyone.
how can I worry less and have more optimism?
Here are a few suggestions that may help you worry less and have more optimism:
Practice mindfulness: try to stay present in the moment and focus on your thoughts and feelings without judgment. This can help you let go of anxious or negative thoughts and find greater peace and calm.
Set goals and focus on the positive: instead of worrying about the things you can't control, focus on what you can control and set goals that are achievable and meaningful to you. This can help you stay motivated and engaged, and give you a sense of accomplishment and optimism.
Surround yourself with positive people: being around positive and supportive people can help you stay positive and optimistic, and can also help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.
Take care of yourself: make sure to prioritize your physical and mental health by getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, eating well, and engaging in activities that you enjoy. This can help you feel better overall and reduce your stress and anxiety.
Let go of perfectionism: try to let go of the need to be perfect and accept that mistakes and failures are a natural part of life. This can help you be more flexible and adaptable, and can also help you be more forgiving of yourself and others.
By incorporating these strategies into your daily life, you can worry less and have more optimism.

Here is an inspirational quote about AI and the future: "AI has the power to change the world, and it is up to us to use it for the greater good and to create a better future for all." This quote reminds us that AI has the potential to be a transformative technology, but it is up to us to ensure that it is used responsibly and ethically. By harnessing the power of AI and using it to address some of the biggest challenges that humanity faces, we can create a brighter future for everyone.
Give me an inspirational quote about ai and the future in six words or less
"AI can create a better future for all."
do you really believe that is true?
I apologize if my previous response was not helpful. It is difficult for me to provide an original, inspirational quote in five words or less about how to handle a world of constant greater risk,
Here's a short Gilbert and Sullivan style comic opera about why we should not worry about AI:
Verse 1:
Why should we fear the rise of AI, With all its powers and its charms? We've conquered every other fear, From dragons to the Trojan War.
Chorus:
AI, oh AI, Don't you know we're not afraid of thee? We'll harness your power and make it our own, AI, oh AI, you'll never be alone!
Verse 2:
The skeptics say that we should fear, That robots will take our jobs away. But history has shown us time and time again, That progress comes with a price to pay.
Chorus:
AI, oh AI, Don't you know we're not afraid of thee? We'll harness your power and make it our own, AI, oh AI, you'll never be alone!
Bridge:
We'll work together, man and machine, To build a brighter future for us all. So fear not, fellow humans, For we have nothing to fear at all.
Chorus:
AI, oh AI, Don't you know we're not afraid of thee? We'll harness your power and make it our own, AI, oh AI, you'll never be alone!
