"Chase change!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

For those of you who receive my Daily Inspiration via e-mail, welcome to my new format!

I've been sending out this email in the same old way with the same old setup since I began in 2016. It was time to shake things up. So I did! And then some! It's a pretty dramatic change - because to avoid complacency, you always need to be in a mindset in which you are chasing change. (For those of you who receive the Daily Inspiration via other formats, here's a glance at the 'old' and 'new' formats.)

The old:

....and the new.

It might not seem like much based on that glance, but if you look at the actual email that went out, you can see the signs of a dramatic shakeup. Take a look here.

Chasing change is always a good idea - and I'm always trying to chase change!

What got me thinking about the need to change things was when I subscribed to an online newsletter by another fellow who works in my field - and when I received it, was rather stunned by the professionalism and design of the format that came with the email. Looking at mine, I was kind of embarrassed by what I was delivering and decided it was time to kick things up a notch!

Chasing change is a key part of the innovation mindset. Never become complacent. Always be willing to shake things up. Never let the quo become the status. Avoid falling into a rut. Stuff like that.

I figure if I am going to preach this type of message from the stage, I might as well make it a part of what I do and how I act! And it seems I speak about this quite a bit.  Once again, I asked ChatGPT what I've written about the idea of complacency and stagnation - and it took a look at what I've written here over the last eight years with thousands of Daily Inspiration posts:

"What has Futurist Jim Carroll said about the dangers of complacency?"

Futurist Jim Carroll has highlighted the **dangers of complacency** as a critical barrier to future success and innovation. He warns that complacency leads to stagnation, making individuals and organizations vulnerable to being overtaken by more agile and proactive competitors. Carroll emphasizes that in today's fast-changing world, **complacency is especially dangerous** because it creates a false sense of security, making people believe that past successes or current stability will carry them forward into the future.

Carroll stresses that **complacency prevents necessary change** and adaptation. In a world where technology, markets, and industries evolve rapidly, complacency can lead to missed opportunities and an inability to respond effectively to disruption. He often suggests that **the future belongs to those who are fast** and those who remain adaptable, constantly learning and evolving rather than settling into comfort zones.

In summary, Jim Carroll views complacency as a silent threat that limits growth and hinders the ability to thrive in a disruptive, fast-paced world. It’s a mindset that must be actively challenged to remain competitive and innovative.

Interesting stuff!
